So I am really so grateful to you for providing such a precious space of growth and freedom throughout my time in Yale-NUS. You always say that you see us, and I definitely see that too, that you really acknowledge and care for everyone in your classes. And over time I learnt to really let loose and be comfortable with my body, and even gained the courage to finally try out Bhangra! It's not just the dancing, but how accepting and empathetic you are as an instructor that made it such an empowering space. I was struggling with self-image issues when I first started, but it was because of how inclusive your zumba classes are that I had the courage to try. ‘I really mean it when I say that your zumba classes have been such a big part of learning to love my body, and regaining my self-confidence in general. Le Jeu techniques will be used as a form of engagement through dance, to inform the dance-making process as well as to bring out the individuality of each participant. We are a strong advocate for bringing dance to all kinds of bodies and we believe in the power of dance and play in therapy and wellness. Thus, we hope to introduce dance creation and learning as a new way of expression. This is an introduction to the philosophy of 'play', it focuses more the playing of various games to unlock the inner child-like spontaneity, and we link it to real world situations on how to use laughter to find their renewed sense of purpose and fun especially through difficult times. This workshop will be full of fun and laughter and accompanied by a supportive atmosphere to help participants understand and share in the pleasure of play. We link it to real world situations on how to use laughter to find their renewed sense of purpose and fun especially through difficult times. At the core of Le Jeu, this pleasure of playing will slowly unmask our unique identities, beauty and the inner child-like spontaneity. In this workshop, participants will experience the pleasure of play through different games and exercises. Ultimately, we want to reintroduce the spirit of play and playfulness into everyday life as a form of self-expression and emotional release. We started this initiative to reach out to underserved communities and inspire them with the spirit of play and movement. Through play, we hope all our participants find the ability to express their individuality through movement.Īrts Inspirit! is a one-day arts outing where participants are introduced to Le Jeu and dance. We end off with a final celebratory Zumba event (open to all ages and generations) with a twist where participants are invited to co-lead onstage with the instructor, giving them a sense of empowerment and confidence that anyone can be a leader when it comes to movement. We target two groups through specially tailored classes for kids, and the general public (teens and young adults, the middle-aged, the elderly, and especially those who are facing illness). In addition, the principle of play, central to the Le Jeu clowning tradition that we practice and share at Creatives Inspirit, is the fundamental principle and basis of each programme and complements our modes of expression through dance to assist the processes of learning and dance-making. It is a Latin American-inspired dance fitness programme where participants are taught to easy-to-follow rhythms such as Merengue, Reggaeton, Dancehall and many more world rhythms. The programme will be conducted in the form of classes and Zumba is one of the main modes used for these classes. With our programme’s vision of creating greater access to dance, regardless of the genre of dance, we hope that participants will feel empowered and encouraged to join in the spirit of dance and continue their personal journey of learning and creating dance in the future. The result is an eclectic and exciting mix of movement that is tailored to suit the learning curve of a child, a newcomer, or a person that may have physical or mental difficulty, with a larger range of dance movement. In designing the programme, we have drawn on our working experience with an extensive industry network, spanning across clowning and various dance genres such as Flamenco, Broadway Jazz, and Hip Hop.
